Dr Ellen Reeves, Lecturer in Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology at the University of Liverpool, has been appointed as the new Director of the New Researchers in Policing Network (NRiPN).

NRiPN was established by the N8 Policing Research Partnership in 2021. It is a community of Post Graduate and Early Career Researchers in the N8 PRP region that supports research, bids, events, collaboration, and impact.

The new Director takes up the role following the departure of the inaugural NRiPN Director Dr Eon Kim, Lecturer in Criminology at University of Manchester. Dr Kim successfully established the network and its lively programme of events, leading it to its current membership of over 100 researchers. She leaves the role to take up a full-time secondment at the Home Office.

Dr Reeves joined Liverpool in 2023 having previously been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre (Monash University, Australia), where she also completed her PhD in 2021. She is a criminologist whose work focuses on the unintended consequences of domestic abuse law reform for victim-survivors, and critiques of carceral feminism.

Dr Reeves will work with N8 PRP’s Academic and Policing Co-Directors, Dr Geoff Pearson, Professor in Criminal Law at the University of Manchester, and Det. Supt. Ben Ewart, Head of Training and Student Officer Development, Greater Manchester Police.

Commenting on her new role, Dr Reeves said:

“I’m thrilled to be appointed as the new director of the N8 NRiPN. I am looking forward to being a part this community of early career researchers and helping to create space to build up the ‘next generation’ of evidenced-based policing research.

Dr Reeves is already working on events for NRiPN, with webinars on ethics applications, building collaborative proposals, and what impact means for the police to be announced.
